DIY force feedback Yoke build

Post by roland » Tue Oct 30, 2012 12:43 am

Hi,

Thanks to the posts on this forum I decided to hack a MS Sidewinder ForceFeedback2 joystick, and modified the electronics for 4x higher motor current.
This modified electronics board can then drive bigger motors with good quality current control. I successfully used it on a home build GA flight yoke.

In combination with FS Force, the result is quite good. It took some fiddling with software settings, but now it works well in combination multiple USB cards in my GA home cockpit.

For an overview, check the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcIpXSaV ... ature=plcp

details on the hack are described on http://www.simprojects.nl/ms_siderwinder_ff2_hack.htm
the flight yoke design can be found on http://www.simprojects.nl/forcefeedback_yoke_ii.htm

Thanks for the good info in this forum, and the great FSforce software!

Wow! That's pretty amazing what you've done. You're very talented! Nice to see my software being put to some good use!

Thanks Russel,

In flightsimulation, it's all the little bits that make the experience more complete. Realistic force feedback adds again a piece of the puzzle.

There are not many affordable FF yokes on the market, but with some imagination and your software, home-build FF yoke is definitely possible.

There are still some software issues to be solved (some strange things happening when switching between different flights with different airplanes, but that has to wait untill after the FSWeekend show.

Rgds
